Jim Brazell is a technology and labor market forecaster whose predictions about the future have come true. From shifts in the labor market due to robotics and automation to the ubiquity of video games and social media his work has informed education, workforce, and economic development public policy from Washington DC and throughout the United States. In 2008, The Bellwether Sounds, an essay for the National School Boards was one of the first public voices proclaiming a Sputnik Moment for the United States—the need to recognize the importance of science and technology as a catalyst for global competitiveness and security. Since 2003 he has delivered speeches and workshops on the topic of innovation and change reaching approximately 50,000 people.

Jim’s public policy work includes: What is next long-­‐term growth strategy to face the financial crisis?; U.S. TEAMS Economic Development, Science and Technology R&D, Workforce, and Education Strategy; and
The STEM Effect: Innovation Through Transformational Thinking and Practice. Jim’s publications include:
Mechatronics -­‐ A Technology Forecast; Gaming -­‐ A Technology Forecast, M2M -­‐ The Wireless Revolution -­‐A Technology Forecast; and several emerging technologies briefs.

Jim’s audiences include industry, government, military and, education organizations. His gift is to use
technology as a platform to understand how the future is unfolding today and how each of as individuals
and as teams and organizations can tap our native innovation. You may think he is a technologist, however,you will learn he is a sociologist with a unique way of thinking about and enabling change, transition, and
what’s next—today.

In 1995, Jim graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Bradley University. The focus of his studies is sociology of cyberspace. He is a distinguished member of the Bradley University
Speech Team having earned national titles from the National Forensics Association and the American
Forensics Association.

Your mission should you decide to accept it is to catalyze change in your classroom, school, district, and community. As CTE teachers it is your responsibility to connect contemporary technology and skills to academic topics to create a more meaningful and relevant learning experience for students. Perhaps more important, your role as a teacher requires that you enable and foster creativity in students so they can be agents of change in the world.
