Coaching: As a Division 1 football coach for 30+ year, Busch is well-known for his dynamic communication style on the field and in players’ meeting rooms. In addition to his talent for teaching techniques and schemes, players rave about his ability to hold the attention of an entire room, day in and day out. Now, as a motivational speaker, Busch has a similar reputation for engaging audiences with his storytelling, wit, and impactful lessons.
Busch’s career in Division I football landed him opportunities to coach with some legendary leaders in the profession: Tom Osborne and Bill Callahan at Nebraska, Ed Orgeron at LSU (where they won a national championship), Urban Meyer at the University of Utah, Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin, and many others as well. Consequently, he’s gained insight into a variety of leadership styles and accumulated a plethora of interesting, behind-the-scenes stories. However, his presentations are not just focused on football; nor are they just a highlights reel. The lowlights and challenges during those years also shaped his philosophies about success and about life.
During his career, Busch was fortunate to experience some applaud-worthy accolades, like being named co-defensive back coach of the year (by FootballScoop.com) and one of the top 25 recruiters in the nation (by Rivals.com). As the Safeties Coach at LSU, he was honored to coach Grant Delpit, the Thorpe award winner, which is presented to the best defensive back in the country.
Recruiting legendary greats like Joe Burrow and Alex Smith turned out to be career-changing experiences, but developing lifelong friendships with them, as well as all the other players he’s recruited and coached, means even more to Busch. The core of his life’s philosophy is on building relationships – which he considers the most important work any of us will do. Busch lives his life with purpose, and by sharing part of his journey with you, intends to impact your life in a positive, lasting way.
Radio Co-Host/Motivational Speaker: In addition to presenting his message to a variety of audiences, Busch is currently a “permanent guest” on the popular morning radio show, “Early Break” on 93.7 The Ticket, which hails out of Lincoln, Nebraska. It’s the most-listened-to program in the state of Nebraska and also draws fans from across the country, even the world, thanks to the online app, YouTube, and downloadable podcast. It’s mostly sports talk, but a lot of other random but highly entertaining topics as well.

In his career, Busch has been fortunate to experience some extraordinary peaks–like coaching on the LSU team that won a national championship, being promoted to interim Defensive Coordinator for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and recruiting hundreds of players who went on to find astounding success. It also includes recruiting legendary quarterbacks, Joe Burrow and Alex Smith, who both went on to become number-one NFL draft picks. Burrow was a non-starter at Ohio State before Busch brought him to LSU to lead the team into the national championship. Alex Smith was a relatively unknown player in high school when Busch first noticed him and recruited him to the University of Utah and on to a soaring NFL career after that. But it’s not just having an eye for talent or coaching elite players that brought Busch the most satisfaction. Every player, every relationship, every team, every coaching strategy, provided valuable “life lessons.” So did every “turnover.”
Indeed, not every coaching role turned out to be the lifetime assignment that Busch had hoped for, and some of those “forced career changes” were incredibly challenging. However, what he learned along the way about seeking opportunities to pivot, leadership styles, navigating life’s changes, team-building, interpersonal relationships, and team culture impacted his life in immeasurable ways. All of which, he’s willing to share.
Busch says: “I’ve always taken great pride in finding the best way to present and teach new concepts to players in our meeting rooms. Now that I’ve stepped away from coaching football, I’m “coaching up” audiences how to seize opportunities (even in dark times) to face challenges and make a positive impact in life.”
