Mike Debus Live Art Performance Painter
Mike Debus originates from Kansas City KS and currently resides in Overland Park KS. Always having a passion for drawing and painting, Mike graduated from college with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After college and a handful of years in corporate america Mike decided to change his course and pursue his dream of becoming a full time free-lance artist.
Since 2001 Mike has successfully created portraits, murals, and countless commissioned works. In November of 2008 Mike was asked if he would paint live on stage at a large youth conference in downtown Kansas City Missouri. After accepting the challenge, Mike found the experience exhilarating and inspiring. Since then, Mike has made Performance Painting his main focus and has enthusiastically taken his talents around the country to audiences of all sizes showcasing his skills as a Live Art Performance Painter.
What I do: I’m a Performance Painter which means I paint/perform live on stage to music at events.
Types of events: I paint at a wide variety of events and venues including charity events, benefits and fundraisers, corporate events, conferences, college shows, faith based events, school assemblies, and pretty much at any event that is looking for a unique, inspiring, and unforgettable experience.
What I offer: For a client I typically offer 1 -3 paintings created live at their event.
What I paint: I have a library of images that the client can choose from. I do take requests but the request(s) needs to be achievable from the creative perspective, and the artist needs ample time to develop the requested image(s) so that he can have it performance ready by the date of the event.
How long does it take to paint an image?: The images that I offer and am most familiar with can be painted in an 8-10 minute time frame. New images could take longer.
What does a typical performance look like?: This depends on the event. Here are some examples:
– Charity event, benefit or fundraiser: Typically I provide entertainment by painting during dinner. I usually create 2 – 3 paintings during dinner. On occasion I’ll paint 1 painting during cocktail hour and then create two paintings during dinner. The paintings then become live auction items. The charity or organization gets all funds raised by the paintings.
– Corporate event: At a corporate event I can be used in a variety of ways. I’ve created one painting to bring a spark of excitement to the evening and I’ve also done a one hour performance presentation which included 3 live paintings and my talk.
– College shows and Assemblies: These events usually include 3 paintings, my talk, and a question answer session.
Occasionally I’m asked to share my story. My story entails my personal journey as an artist from the time I was a little boy to current day. Many people are curious of when I first realized I was an artist and how I ever became a live art performance painter. My story takes approximately 18-20 minutes to share. I am also open to question/answer sessions.
